Caring for children for over 30 years, Rainbow Nursery in Birstall is the longest running nursery in the area.
From babies to preschool, parents trust us to help their child to learn, play and grow in a friendly and nurturing environment. Birstall’s longest running nursery, we have consistently been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted – that’s because of our dedication to giving your child the best start to life before school.
We know that your child is unique and will have their own interests, strengths and weaknesses. We don't believe that there is one-size-fits-all approach to childcare - instead, our staff will adapt based on your child and their development.
So your child will receive individual attention with personalised development plans as they start to grasp key skills through play with activities personalised around them. Working with parents, we will ensure that your child's individual needs are identified and met to provide the very best care.
Parents are often surprised by the size of our spectacular outdoor play area. This amazing space gives your child the opportunity to learn and play indoors or outdoors, wherever suits them best. We believe that we have the best outdoor play area in Birstall - giving your child countless opportunities to learn, play and grow.
Alongside our facilities on site, your child will also enjoy trips to our allotment plot, just a short walk away from the nursery. Here they will learn more about the natural environment and the world around them.
We opened in 1989 and are Birstall's longest running nursery. For over 30 years, parents have trusted us to consistently provide the highest quality care for their children.
The nursery manager has been leading Rainbow for over 20 years, meaning that your child will benefit from her extensive experience in childcare. We know what it takes to support your child to reach their full potential.
Our friendly team will build a strong relationship with you so that we can work together to help your child reach their full potential. By working closely with you, your child's key person will be able to personalise their care and get to know what makes your child unique.
Alongside this invaluable personal contact, you can also use our secure Famly app on your computer, tablet or phone to get updates on your child's day and see photos as they learn and play.
Your child will be cared for by an experienced team of qualified childcare practitioners. We have many longstanding members of staff, including some who have been with the nursery for decades. This will provide your child will much needed consistency as they grow.
To complement their experience, we insist on continuous learning for all our team to ensure they are up-to-date on the latest best practice in childcare. All of our staff also hold additional qualifications, including paediatric first aid and child safeguarding.
Located on Wanlip Lane in the heart of Birstall, we are in a perfect location for parents driving into Leicester City Centre, or towards Loughborough.
Many of our parents also work at home and choose us because our location is easily accessible from many residential areas. We are located near to a local primary school and our children attend all three schools in Birstall.
Each day, our cook makes homemade food on site, using fresh ingredients, locally sourced where possible. Healthy choices are at the heart of our approach and all menus are designed with nutrition in mind.
Our cook will adapt our meals to suit your child's dietary requirements and we cook a vegetarian alternative as standard each day.
When you drop your child off each day, we want you to have the peace of mind that you are leaving them in a safe and secure environment. Their safety and security is our top priority and our experienced team work hard to ensure your child can learn and play safely each day.
We are proud that Ofsted has highlighted that our ‘staff implement robust procedures throughout the nursery to keep children safe’ and that our arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
To keep the nursery secure, our entrance remains locked and only staff can give access to families and visitors. We have strong relationships with parents so that our team know who should be picking up your child and we have a password pick-up system in place if you want to arrange for someone unfamiliar to the nursery to collect them.
As part of our safeguarding policy, we have a strict policy in place prohibiting the use of phones or personal recording equipment inside the nursery for staff, parents and visitors.
Ofsted have praised the strong relationships we build with parents. While we are confident that the procedures we have in place ensure that every child in our care will remain safe and secure, parents are always encouraged to discuss any concerns that they might have with us.
Our procedures are constantly under review to ensure that we are always following best practice.
We insist that all of our staff are trained in safeguarding, food hygiene and paediatric first-aid, with frequent 'top-up' sessions to keep their knowledge fresh. As standard, all our staff have enhanced DBS checks carried out.
Our staff have many years of experience in caring children safely and some have over a decade's experience at the nursery. They are led by a management team who have been in place for over 30 years.
Ofsted have praised our efforts to identify and reduce hazards inside and outside the nursery and staff do regular safety checks, checking all toys and equipment. Our large outdoor play area is safe and secure, with staff always supervising children.
We know that good nutrition is vital for helping your child to grow well.
Our five weekly menus are changed seasonally to ensure that your child is benefiting from a variety of fresh and delicious dishes. Meal plans are prepared to ensure that each meal supports your child’s development. Our on-site cook prepares each meal freshly each day, using delicious fresh produce which is locally sourced where possible. We don’t add salt to meals, limit the use of sugar and incorporate at least five servings of fruit and vegetables each day.
Nutritious food is vital for your child's health and development and we pride ourselves on the quality of the food we provide. All our food is designed with nutrition in mind, following the latest health guidance and government recommendations on diet in early years.
All our staff are trained in food hygiene and have experience in supporting children at meal times. We support children to try new and different types of food - when surrounded by friends, many children are willing to try food which they are not willing to eat at home!
Working with you, we will always follow your home feeding routine for younger children. When you feel your child is ready, we will fully cooperate during the weaning process.
Babies moving onto solids are offered foods such as pureed vegetables before being gradually introduced to other flavours. They will eventually begin eating modified versions of the main meal eaten by the older children each day.
We treat mealtimes as a social occasion, where children can develop their communication skills with their friends.
We find that the social setting also encourages children to try different foods. Nursery aged children are much more likely to try different foods than older children and parents are often amazed at what their 'fussy eaters' will try when sat at the table with their peers.
We also use mealtimes to develop your child's independence. Supported by staff, they will serve themselves and older children will set the table.
Milk and healthy snacks are served mid-morning and mid-afternoon. To support their independence, children will self-serve and pour their own drinks. Snacks vary each day and include options like vegetable sticks, fruit or rice cakes.
We will always cooperate with parents to cater for your child's dietary requirements. Alongside the main meal, a vegetarian alternative is prepared each day and we will adapt meals as necessary to suit your child's dietary needs. We cater for children from a range of religious and cultural backgrounds and are always happy to discuss meal requirements with you.
We have a robust allergens policy in place and we work closely with you to ensure that we are aware of your child's intolerances.
