Childcare in Birstall

Learning & Development

In the years before school, your child will develop faster than at any other time in their life.

From birth, children are natural learners and we know that each child will learn and develop differently. During the first five years of their life, they will develop more rapidly than at any other time. We work to ensure that your child achieves their full potential and makes the most of their talents and abilities to ensure that they have the best possible start to life.

Your child will be monitored by their key person, who assesses how they are developing and uses this to design activities to support their development. We will use your child’s interests to create games which support their next steps and our learning programme is based around the concept of learning through play.

An experienced team helping your child to grow

Our team are qualified childcare professionals and have years of experience in how to support child development. We believe in continuous training, so that the staff looking after your child will know the latest techniques and best practice to help them grow. We have many longstanding members of staff, meaning that they are able to follow your child’s progress as they develop into confident youngsters.

Working closely with you as your child develops

We know that your child’s development isn’t just confined to their time at nursery, so we work closely with you to understand your child’s individual wants, needs and progress at home. Using this information, we are able to better support your child in their development at nursery.

Supporting each child's development

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, published by the Department for Education. The Framework looks to promote development in seven areas of learning.

We focus on the following areas of development:

Outdoor Play

Children love to be outside and we make full use of our spectacular outdoor area throughout the day for free play or group activities. Parents are often surprised at the size of the outdoor play area – a hidden gem in the heart of Birstall.

We know that some children prefer to learn outdoors, so our outdoor area is used in all weathers throughout the year and is full of activities to create an inspiring place to play.

Custom designed by one of the UK’s leading suppliers of outdoor play spaces for children, the space uses wood, plants and nature to create an inspiring place to play. Your child will be able to choose what they play with, including:

  • Our exciting pirate ship
  • The dinosaur kingdom
  • Our F1 race track with a range of bikes and cars
  • A custom-made activity and climbing frame
  • Our large sand pit
  • The digger and dumper truck area
  • Our relaxed music and creative zone
  • The quiet story area
  • The exciting hill and slide
  • Planting in our vegetable garden
  • The bug and insect village

Stimulating outdoor play

Our ethos is based around learning through play, so our outdoor activities will help your child's growth and development. We know that some children prefer to learn outside, so the outdoor play areas all provide the same opportunities to develop their skills as the inside play areas. This might be developing their motor and physical skills with our bikes or growing their creativity through role-play on the pirate ship. The children will get hands on with nature, helping to water produce in our vegetable garden.

Allotment

Alongside outdoor play at the nursery, your child will also enjoy visits to our allotment - just a few minutes away from nursery. Here, they learn about the natural environment and the world around them as they help to look after our allotment produce. We use this hands-on experience to build to your child's confidence and independence.

Trips Out

Trips away from the nursery help your child learn more about the world around them.

To support your child’s development, throughout the year we go on frequent day trips in small or large groups. Curious about the world around them, these trips are a fun opportunity for the children to discover new places and new things in different settings.

Your child will go on regular trips to the library and the park, giving them the chance to develop their key skills in a different environment. They provide an opportunity for the children to learn about the world around them and their community in a controlled and secure way.

These regular trips are complemented by outings to other exciting locations further afield such as Mountsorrel Farm, Beacon Hill and Loughborough Cinema. We also ensure that we celebrate major holidays and dates with themed trips or events. These have included a trip to an Indian restaurant for lunch to help learn about Diwali and a Bonfire Night celebration in the nursery garden.

Experienced staff leading safe trips

Your child’s safety and security are our first priority and each of our exciting trips are risk assessed. We provide an appropriate staff to child ratio, with our experienced team trained in paediatric first aid.

Helping your child's development

Our trips will help your child's development as they learn new skills in a different environment.

For example, on a trip to the local shops we might challenge numeracy skills by counting fruit together, support their understanding of the world by discovering different types of produce and develop their creativity and imagination by engaging in role play.

Nursery events

Throughout the year, we host events for families to attend, ranging from our Summer and Winter Fete to the Christmas Nativity.

Family involvement is encouraged in our events and trips, which provide a chance to socialise with other parents and our staff – helping to create a strong working relationship in a social environment.
